Presidents Report

What a great year the 2015 football season has been at Dragonland! With twelve teams hitting the field including an U8 side for the first time, this year Scammell was a vibrant and exciting place to be on a Sunday, from frosty early morning games to soggy late afternoons at Grub @ The Club.

This season we had 5 teams who made finals, a fantastic effort. The U11 Green and U12 North sides bowed out in the semis, while the U15s fought a tough preliminary final to miss out on a grand final birth.

To the U8’s, U9’s and 10’s teams who gave it their all in their Lightening Carnivals – congratulations and well done. Our U10’s were lucky enough to come home with a pennant!

To the U13’s and U14’s who went through to the Grand Final and brought home the Flag! Congratulations to you all and well done to these three teams who are very deserving winners, as it just goes to show what can be achieved with persistence and perseverance.

To Steven Kontiveis U15’s, Jaxon Stuart U14’s, Ethan Sherlock U13’s and Chris White congratulations on successful SMJFL interleague carnivals. To have both players and coach representing the club is fantastic.

Thanks to all the Coaches, Team Managers and their support staff for getting the kids out there and playing footy. You all should be very proud of how you have conducted yourselves as Dragons both on the field and off.

As with previous years as President I have had great support from the Committee and I would like to thank – Belinda Powell in her role as Secretary. To Chris White (Whitey) as Vice President, Richard May – Treasurer, Anna Goodwill – Registrar, Pat Heverin – Sponsorship, Kathy Daniels – Canteen Manager, Jim Hall – Bar Manager and Auskick Rep. Thanks also to David Park for his support of the coaches in his role as Coaching Coordinator. Special thank you to Esteban Rodriguez-Casey for producing the Acorn each week and for looking after our website and keeping all the goings up to date each week.

Thanks also to Anna Goodwill and Pat Heverin for their wonderful efforts in organising the 50th anniversary dinner dance at Merrimu Receptions. It was great to see 10 life members in the room celebrating a fantastic milestone, a great night was had by all who attended.

Thank you to our many club sponsors whose financial support over the season has been invaluable and hope that this continues in the future.

Again it has been a pleasure being President of the Oakleigh Dragons Junior Football Club and may you all have a safe and enjoyable summer and I look forward to seeing you all again next year.
