Play Fair

The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) and St Kilda Football Club have joined forces to launch the ‘Play Fair’ campaign. This campaign promotes inclusiveness, respect, and fair play within the junior footballing community.

Being rolled out to over 65 venues in the region, you will see the posters in the changerooms of every venue, every round. As a club we have strong values, and the high standard of behaviour we expect from our players, coaches and supporters has not changed. The ‘Play Fair’ campaign will build on these values, and clearly outline the behaviour expected on game-day. But it is not just the players who should strive to act fair.

Club members, officials and supporters are encouraged to act FAIR if playing, officiating, or spectating at a game, or on occasions away from match-day (ie: training, school, social situations, online). What it means to PLAY, COACH and SUPPORT FAIR:

FUN – Show sportsmanship to help everyone enjoy the game

APPRECIATION – Recognise the worth of others from all religious and cultural background (even if they are different to yours)

INCLUSION – Practice inclusiveness regardless of gender, sexuality, disability, cultural background, socio-economic status or football ability

RESPECT – Treat other’s how you’d like to be treated It is a timely launch for the ‘Play Fair’ campaign as we experience Indigenous Round scheduled for AFL Round 10 Thursday 23 May – Sunday 28 May. It is a great starting point for discussion and education on respect, inclusiveness, and unacceptable behaviour.

When you spot the ‘Play Fair’ posters make sure you read it and talk about it with teammates and supporters. If you can, take a picture with the poster, upload to social media and tag @smjfl, with a caption “I play/coach/support FAIR”. Start the conversation, and be in the running for money-can’t-buy St Kilda FC match-day experiences.

Scammell Reserve Upgrade

News of the Week

Awesome! These kids right here deserve the best. And that’s what we will give them with the $500,000 that has just been provided by the Andrews Government for an upgrade at Scammell Reserve, Oakleigh South – home to the Oakleigh Krushers, the O.Y.C.F.C – Oakleigh Dragons Junior Football Club and Krushers Cricket Club. That means better club rooms, a modern pavilion and best of all – change rooms for girls and women. These clubs are not just a community – they are a family.
In partnership with Monash City Council this will be a total $2.3 million upgrade. I’m absolutely thrilled that our Government is supporting this plan. It’s a project I worked on while at Monash, followed by Stefanie Perri – Labor Candidate for Chisholm who secured major extra funds from Council. Huge credit goes to the clubs, the committees, the parents and the kids who volunteer countless hours week in week out, and have advocated passionately for this project.
The assistance of Clare O’Neil MP, John Eren MP and Hong Lim MP, Labor for Clarinda has been fantastic. And a massive thank you to Tim Pallas and Ann Barker for your work on this – you are both worth your weight in gold.
